OUR 15 MONTH CARIN TERRIER DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WELL HEARTWORM HURTING STOMACH

June 10, 2014

Our 15 month carin terrier does not seem to be well. We do all the things that should be done (shots, heartworm prevention, flea & tick treatments). She was recently given a pill for tape worm, treated and blood tested for a hurting stomach (spent the night at the Vet) and since she came home has been coughing (sneezing) for the past week. Her last kennel cough treatment was about 1 month ago. She has a heavy discharge from the eyes; they are also very red in the back. Has a runny nose at times. I am worried that something serious may be going on here. Any suggestions?

Hi Barbara,

This is a very interesting situation. What showed up on the blood screen? It sounds to me like there is an active infection in the respiratory system, and most likely her immune system is compromised and needs support. Without seeing the dog, I would consider putting her on a very broad spectrum antibiotics (Baytrill and Amoxicillin) if the white count reflects an infection. I would suggest a good vitamin/mineral enzyme/microbiotic supplement —— say the Everyday Health Supplement— for immune system support and to help normalize the intestinal tract. Please let me know how this one comes out. My best to you.
