WHAT CAUSES THE BACTERIA TO GROW IN THE DOGS STOMACH

June 10, 2014

Dr Kruger, one more question? If the bacteria are always there, What causes this? Thanks again,

Eleanor C, Anaheim

Hi Eleanor,

The bacteria are always there...When the body’s immune system fails, and GSDs have very poor immune systems, the bacteria have a chance to grow and of course they multiply very rapidly. Most GSDs do not secrete adequate amounts of pancreatic enzymes the help control the numbers of bacteria in the gut. So bacterial overgrowth is common in the GSD. These excessive numbers of Bacteria in the right combination will have a sudden released of gas in the stomach the dog bloats up, this causes the stomach to turn (torsion) on its self and the rest is history unless immediate surgery is performed. So there it is in a nutshell. To prevent this, get some of the Puppy/Pregnancy formula or the Everyday Health Supplement and at 6 month switch to the High Performance formula...This will give your dog the best chance to be healthy...my best
