MY BLACK LAB/PIT BULL MIX IS NOW 13 DOG YEARS WITH ARTHRITIS SHOULD I CONSIDER SURGERY

June 10, 2014

My black lab/pit bull mix is now 13 dog years old thus translating to geriatric. He has a torn meniscus in a knee that has some substantial arthritis. Should I consider surgery with an orthopedic surgeon-vet? He also has hip displaysia. What would I do in lieu of surgery? Each day I give my best friend 75 mgs. of Rimadyl...periodic screening have proven his liver and other Vitals are still performning quite well. Please help

Hi Tina,

If there is already arthritis in your dog’s knee, and with his age, I think the surgery would be of limited use at this point. I would use my Healthy Joint formula to relieve the pain and help prevent further deterioration of the joint. This formula does not produce any side effects. If you use it most likely you will be able to stop giving the Rimadyl after about two weeks. Hope this gives you another route to follow.
